Radiation treatments for head and neck cancer are especially hard on your teeth. For this reason you may be given prescriptions for special fluoride toothpaste and/or mouthwash, such as Colgate PreviDent 5000 Plus and Biotène Mouthwash, for use before, during and after your treatment.

Other dentists prescribe fluoride trays instead. First, a prescription fluoride gel is squeezed into the trays. Then the trays are slipped over the teeth. They are kept on for a prescribed length of time, 45 minutes in Mike's case. Flouride trays are meant to be used permanently, not for a short or defined term.
